More of a Stagger Than a Swagger
Funny old week - from the best of weeks, to the you’re-having-a-laugh of weeks, to the could-do-better of weeks!
Good news, Gigantasaurus clocked up parkrun number nine at the weekend.
It was really number 10 but the wobbly walker forgot to take the all-important barcode to one run, so it didn’t count. Schoolboy error really and a slap in the face when you realise that hip pocket is empty at the END. Oops! There was a hint, all be it ever so slight, of the lard lugger’s trusty waddle turning into a temporary jog, or a joggle, but it didn’t quite happen. Looked more like a clumsily avoided trip, to be honest.
However, the stumble, stagger and stroll was enough to record a personal best time. The first huffing-and-puffing-powered parkrun took Man Mountain more than an hour - a whole 66 min 25 sec - and the latest a mere 52 min 16 sec - more than 14 minutes quicker.
Just for the record, and to keep the Incredible Bulk firmly anchored to the ground, the average parkrun time stands at 28 min 27 secs. And, while we’re at it, the record of 13 min 48 secs was set by a fleet-footed youngster in August 2012.
A generous serving of fun followed the run/walk in the park. Old friends (not as old as me and inexplicably svelte) very kindly popped over the border heavily loaded with fine food and drink. It would have been rude not to have eagerly consumed the tasty treats so, doing the decent thing, the fat lad tucked in. All washed down with guffaws of laughter, not to mention rhubarb gin, spiced rum and plum brandy. What fun (apart from a few revelations which I assured the Resident Teenager were gross exaggerations).
But the piper has to be paid and I’m blaming continued sluggish progress on the frontline of the War on Waist on my blow out. Just a pound down in what seemed like a very good week.
Time to step up the exercise and tuck into some of the tempting light-weight recipes that have very kindly been sent down the social-media line to me.
Think there might be a good yarn to spin next week!
